Tim represents: Alaska Copper & Brass, American Steel, American Water Services, Bloch Steel, Bunzl Foods, Chem Central, Coca Cola Bottling, DHL, Earle M. Jorgensen, Patent Construction, Pepsi Cola, Seattle Iron & Metal, Seattle School District, Service Paper, Shasta Beverage, Unisource, Univar, XPEDX

In addition to being a Senior Business Agent for Local 174, Tim is our Education Director. He is one of the most experienced members of our staff. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and worked for a short time teaching and coaching in the Seattle School District. Tim’s Teamster career started with UPS in Seattle, where he worked 11 years as a Package Car Driver and served as a Steward for 8 years. He was hired in 1991 by then-Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Al McNaughton as the UPS Business Agent, then moved on to other jurisdictions later in his career. Those jurisdictions represented virtually every industry in Local 174, which included Air Freight, Beverage, King County Roads and Solid Waste, Paper, Local Cartage, LTL, Grocery and Steel.

In 1997 Tim went to work for Teamster Local 313 in Tacoma, Washington, organizing and representing Washington State Correction Employees primarily in Eastern Washington, and the State Penitentiary was one of his “barns!” Prior to returning home to 174, Tim spent 8 years as an elected B.A. working for the members of Local 162, our sister Local in Portland, Oregon. At 162 Tim found himself back in the familiar surroundings of UPS, where he represented the Feeder Drivers as well as the full-time and part-time Inside Workers at the Swan Island Hub. He also served as the Teamsters/UPS NW States Grievance Committee’s Recording Secretary. In addition to his UPS representational duties, Tim represented the Local 162 members in the Steel industry and at USF Reddaway, served as the Local’s Benefits Coordinator, and assisted with the negotiation of several contracts including helping the JC 37 Beverage Director with the negotiation of the Portland area’s Soft Drink contracts. Tim was also responsible for 162’s Educational Programs, the Local’s publications, and Corporate Campaign strategies.

He was a 174 Business Agent during the Bob Hasegawa and Scott Sullivan Administrations, and was a member of the Bargaining Committees during the 1997 and 2002 UPS Negotiations. Tom represents: All American Insurance, Ballard Transfer, Boilermaker’s Clerical Local #104, Elliott Bay Transfer, Federated Logistics, Lincoln Moving & Storage, MacMillan Piper, Markey Machinery, Masins Furniture, Nelson Trucking, Pacific Delivery, Port of Seattle, Pozzi Brothers, Rail Terminal Services, Sears Logistics, Sears Market Delivery, Single Source Transportation, System Transfer & Storage

I am a 31-year Teamster, all with Local 174. I started my working career as a Teamster with North Star Forwarding Company, loading freight destined for Alaska and Hawaii. After 6 years on the dock, I was persuaded by my co-workers to be the Shop Steward as no one else really wanted to serve. Things just kind of evolved into more involvement over the years, volunteering to picket when needed, and serving on the 174 Rank and File Organizing Committee.

I never imagined being a Business Agent and working for the Teamsters. Even now, I sometimes think, “Am I really doing this?” Anyway, I was initially hired by Local 174 as an Organizer and later was hired as a Business Agent. I have worked at 174 under five Administrations — those of former Secretary-Treasurers Bob Hasegawa, Scott Sullivan and Dan Scott, and this one of present Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks — and have served the Membership in numerous jurisdictions over the years.

Patty has experience in negotiations, grievance processing, arbitrations, staff direction, and steward training. She brings a wealth of experience to the Local and is a valuable resource for staff and members alike.

Bill represents: UPS-Issaquah, UPS-Kent, UPS-Kirkland, UPS-Lynnwood, UPS-Pacific, UPS-Redmond

I have been a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for 36 years. In 1972 I joined Teamsters Local 599 in Tacoma, where I was employed at Nalleys Fine Foods for 7 years. In 1978 I was hired at United Parcel Service as a Package Car Driver, at which time I transferred into Teamsters Local 174. I became a Shop Steward in 1996, and served as a Picket Line Captain during the 1997 UPS Strike. I have been an Activist in Local 174 for 28 years and counting, and have participated in many Union activities including DRIVE fundraising and Political Action events.

In 2002 I had the honor of being the first rank and file member from Local 174 to be appointed to the National Teamsters/UPS Negotiating Committee by General President James Hoffa. And in 2007 I entered this new chapter in my career as a Business Agent for Local 174. It is a pleasure to now be able to directly represent and service the members of Local 174, and more specifically the UPS members in my jurisdictional locations noted above.

Brian represents: Easley Hauling, Herche, Lasater, Oak Harbor Freight Lines, Peninsula Truck Lines, United Warehouse, USF Reddaway

I’ve been a member of Local 174 for approximately 12 years, was a member of the 2000 and 2004 USF Reddaway Negotiating Committees, was an elected Local 174 Delegate to the 2006 International Teamsters Convention, and worked with the IBT on a DRIVE campaign in 2003. I have been a Business Agent since 2007 and am happy to be serving the members of Local 174 in that capacity in my assigned jurisdictional areas.

I am excited about this new career commitment, will do my best to live up to the high standards that have been set by those who have come before me at 174, and look forward to continuing to meet the challenges that come to me in the future with enthusiasm.

Carl represents: ACME, Draper Valley (Jim’s Hauling), Food Services of America, Nabisco/Kraft, Puratos Bakery, Rosella’s Fruit & Produce, Ruan Transportation, Safeway Company

Most recently before becoming a Local 174 Business Agent in 2007, I was employed at Safeway’s Auburn location. During my years since becoming a Teamster in 1984, I have worked under National Master Contracts in both Freight and Carhaul at Silver Eagle, PIE, ABF, CF, Yellow Freight and Allied Automotive.

It concerns me that we have lost membership numbers in recent years in industries such as Carhaul, Freight and Construction. We need to focus our efforts on protecting the current industries we have already organized that have made this Union great, while looking to future organizing to help build an even stronger Union in upcoming years. It is an honor to now be a 174 Business Agent and to personally have the privilege of working with and for my fellow Brothers and Sisters.

I started my driving career in 1969 after the Air Force but I got my first Teamster job driving log trucks in 1974. Since then I have had Union jobs in all types of equipment including Greyhound bus, grocery, flatbeds, bulk concrete, new truck delivery, and dump trucks. I have a Bachelors Degree in Transportation Management and have served on Negotiating Committees at Fred Meyer-Portland and Active USA. I’ve also been Shop Steward at Active USA and City Transfer Inc., and served on the Local 174 Rank and File Benefits Committee for two years.

I’m excited about the new opportunity my Business Agent job has given me to help make Local 174 the Northwest’s premier Construction Local Union.

Michael represents: Cedar Grove Composting, Columbia Distribution, K & L Beverage, King County-Solid Waste, King County Landfill-Cedar Hills, Pacific Rendering

I have been a Business Agent and Organizer at Local 174 since 2007 under the Rick Hicks Administration. I also am the 174 Political Action Director. This is my second stint working in this type of job. Back in 2003 under the previous Scott Sullivan Administration, I was an Organizer for the Local. I got lots of valuable experience and was instrumental in the Columbia Distributors Drive, a major organizational triumph which added 250 new members to Local 174.

I have been a Teamster since 1996, working most of those years at K&L Distributors. During my 12-year Teamster and 8-year Shop Steward years, I also completed several Labor training courses. I am a “jack of all trades” at Local 174 when it comes to member representation, organizing, and political efforts.

I have been Teamster for approximately 18 years, starting out working for 3 years at Longacres as a member of Local 117. Then in 1993, I was hired as a driver for Airborne Express, which is now known as DHL, where I worked until being hired in 2007 as a Local 174 Business Agent by Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. I have three important tasks as a Business Agent — making numerous shop visits, educating members on why they should support our Union, and assisting 174 in being the strongest Local Union in Joint Council 28.

I have participated in two Airborne Express negotiations, in 1997 and in 2003. I was an elected Shop Steward for 12 years, an elected 174 Delegate to the 2006 IBT Convention, and an elected member of the Safety Committee for DHL from 2002-2006.

I earned my AA and AM degrees (Law and Justice) from Highline Community College in 1993, and attended additional classes at Central Washington University. Additionally, I graduated from the Washington State Police Academy in 1996. I hold leadership positions with the Irish Heritage Club of Seattle, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Bernadette’s Parish Council. I am currently President of the Irish Heritage Club and a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, wife of 11 years Gabby, and our beautiful daughters, Daisy, 9, and Diana, 7, as this is being written in the Spring of 2008. We enjoy taking extended family vacations to exotic places, and taking our boat on outings especially during the Summer.

I was also a member of the Allied Waste Negotiations Committee in 2006. I am a firm believer that Teamster Solidarity wins strong contracts, and am happy to be able to help fight for our Local’s Solidarity from my new Business Agent vantage point.

Roger represents: ABF, Lanier Brugh, Horizon Lines, Roadway, Yellow Freight

Since 2007 I have been a Local 174 Business Agent, but my experience has come in two Locals. I was a Local 741 Executive Board member prior to the merger with 174. I was also the Recording Secretary of the JC-28 Chapter of the Teamsters Women’s Caucus from May 2004 through May 2006. I was a member of the 741-174 Merger Policy Advisory Committee from October 2002 through January 2004. I was an elected Delegate to the 2002 IBT Special Convention, and an elected Delegate to the 2001 IBT Convention, a Volunteer Organizer on several campaigns both with Local 741 and Local 174. Before my present Business Agent duties, I was Driver-Sales-Steward at ABF Freight System, Milne Truck Lines, Best Way Motor Freight, and System 99 Freight Systems.

I am a 32-plus-year second generation Teamster who was working under the NMFA most of my career. My objective now as a Business Agent is to use my knowledge and experience to uphold the principles of the Teamsters Union, and to serve the rank and file members of our fine, merged Local from my unique two-part perspective. I hope to help enhance Local 174’s strength at the Bargaining Table, in Organizing Campaigns, and in the Political Arena.

Jeff represents: UPS-Feeders, UPS-Import, UPS-Redmond, UPS-Seattle

My family history goes back many generations in Local 174. In July of 1980, I was able to gain employment with UPS, thus personally becoming a Teamster member of Local 174 like my Father, Brothers, Uncles, Aunts, and Great Uncles were, too.

My 26-year career in the field prior to beginning my present office job as a 174 Business Agent began as a part-time Box Liner for the UPS East Center in Seattle just prior to the opening of the UPS Redmond Building. In 1984 I became a Package Car Driver in North Center, also in the Seattle Building. In 1993 I became a Feeder Driver with Domiciles in Seattle, Redmond, Pacific, and during one peak season in Tukwila.

During all of my years as a Teamster, I have been a Steward or Activist. I now have the great honor of working for the members of this Local in the UPS jurisdiction as a Business Agent. I am enjoying this new challenge, and hope to meet as many members of this great Teamster Local as possible as time goes on.

Matt represents: UPS-Kent, UPS-Pacific, UPS-Seattle, UPS-Southcenter/North

I was a UPS part-time worker from 1993-1996, and a UPS full-time Package Car Driver from 1996-2006 at which time I became in 2007 a Local 174 Business Agent. I was while working for UPS a Shop Steward, and was a Driver’s Representative on the Local 174 UPS Bargaining Committee.

As a Business Agent for Local 174’s UPS Division I have several goals — getting to know the members in my jurisdiction, getting a feel for the issues the membership wants the Local 174 UPS Agents to be focused on, educating the membership about not only their contractual rights but also their rights and responsibilities as Teamsters, and creating more continuity between our Shop Stewards.

Holding this huge United Parcel Service Company accountable for their actions is always made easier when the membership works together for a common cause. Whether you work in the warehouse, wash trucks, clerk, or drive a truck — it is vitally important that we learn from each other. In the end, enforcing the contract and assuring that UPS respects our members is what I strive to accomplish for the membership of Local 174.
